Our Platform

01

We will stand up for members in the workplace and at the bargaining table.

We need an active and engaged union and Local, and having only 20 shop stewards is not enough for almost 6,000 members — we deserve 20 times that. We will organize members to step into stewardship and build the representation our workplaces have been missing.

Our contract expires this year. We will fight for remote work protections and wage increases that keep pace with inflation — because our last contract did not. This means keeping up the pressure at delegates’ meetings to make sure that DC37 leadership knows a weak contract is not acceptable.

We’re Tier 6 members who are fed up with DC37’s failures. The teachers’ union just won a massive pension victory in the New York State budget – lowering their retirement age from 63 to 58. Ours stayed the same. We will use our platform to organize across the local and the union to demand better.

We will firmly oppose privatization, including within our own Local. Our Local cannot effectively demand union FTE positions from the City while trying to outsource its own day-to-day work to consultants.

02

We seek real transparency in how our Local operates.

Members have a right to know how their dues are spent, how their representatives vote, and what decisions are being made in their name. If dues are going up, members deserve to know why, how much, and who decided. Closed-door decisions handed down from above are not acceptable. We need more opportunities for member input on important issues before decisions are made.

03

We will connect Local 2627 to broader labor, political, and community causes.

Legislation and budgets affect our workforce, our retirees, and all New Yorkers whose lives depend on our work. We seek to build genuine partnerships with other locals, because the issues facing our members are rarely ours alone. Locals that work together are locals that can actually move the needle.

Members deserve all of the facts about issues such as Medicare Advantage, the New York Health Act, and No More 24. We will fight to make sure they get them.

We believe our Local must take stronger public positions on the issues that matter. This is not just our conviction. It is what AFSCME’s own standards require. The moment demands it.
